Eliot Passage
Eliot Passage is a marine waterway between Village Island (E) and Pearl Island (W) in the Johnstone Strait region of the Central Coast of British Columbia, Canada, southwest of the opening of Knight Inlet.〔(BC Names/GeoBC entry "Eliot Passage" )〕 The Kwakwaka'wakw village of Memkumlis, also known as Mamalillaculla after the name of the group of Kwakwaka'wakw whose principal village it is, is on its eastern shore on Village Island.〔(BC Names/GeoBC entry "Memkoomlish" )〕

The passage was named in 1866 by Captain Pender, then 2nd Lieutenant aboard the HMS ''Cleo'' under Captain Turnour.〔''British Columbia Coast Names, 1592-1906: their origin and history'', Captain John T. Walbran, John T, Ottawa, 1909 (republished for the Vancouver Public Library by J.J. Douglas Ltd, Vancouver, 1971, quoted in (BC Names/GeoBC entry "Eliot Passage" )〕 Eliot served with the Royal Navy's Pacific Station from 1859 to 1862 and again in 1864 to 1868.〔15th Report of the Geographic Board of Canada, 31 March 1917 (supplement to the Annual Report of the Dept of the Interior), 1917, Ottawa, quoted in (BC Names/GeoBC entry "Eliot Passage" )〕
